Scoil Eoin Baiste have received their first Green flag for Litter & Waste.
Mrs. Lucas and Ms. Reid set up our Green Schools Committee and worked on making our school a more environmentally friendly place!
The committee, all the classes and teachers have worked really hard to decrease the amount of waste in the school, to increase our recycling and to start composting in the school.
We have been very successful in increasing recycling and composting and have reduced our landfill waste dramatically.
We have had Recycling Art Competitions, carried out a waste audit, created a Green Schools Code and sorted through all our rubbish to see where the most of our waste was coming from.
In April 2012 we held a Spring Clean around the school and our local community! All the hard work carried out by the teachers and pupils made a huge difference to our school.
This year, with the help of our caretaker Seamus, we have cleaned up a “blackspot” area in our school. Pupils on our Green Schools Committee and Seamus have planted new flowers around the school in time for Spring.
We rebuilt our Vegetable Garden and have begun planting vegetables for the school.
Keep an eye out here on our website to see all our Green Schools Activities!
We are now working towards our second Green flag for Energy.
2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th classes all took part in wonderful workshops based on the theme of Energy and were facilitated by An Taisce and the SEAI.
The children really enjoyed learning about energy and how to save energy in our school and homes.
