Scoil Náisiúnta Eoin Baiste, Dundalk, Co. Louth

Friends & Parents of SEB

Scoil Eoin Baiste is a welcoming and friendly school which recognises the important role parents play, as primary educators, in their child's education. We strive to invite and include parents in all areas of their child’s education. Our school policy is to work together to create school community where everyone is equally respected and valued.

Our school has been part of the Home School Community Liaison Scheme for many years. This scheme is based on partnership between the school, the home and the community - all working together in the best interests of the pupils and their families. We are very lucky to have a dedicated full time Home School Liaison Teacher (HSCL) whose job it is to provide the necessary link between home and school.

The HSCL co-coordinator works with parents/guardians in the following ways:

· Home Visits: Visiting parents/guardians in their own homes to address concerns that they may have about their children in school

· Inviting parents/guardians into the school to attend talks or meetings

· Courses for parents/guardians are run throughout the year on a range of topics, these include Story Sacks, Christmas Crafts, Cooking on a budget, Shared Reading, Art classes, English language classes, Zumba dance, Flower Arranging, etc.

· Encouraging closer ties between teachers and parents such as Meet the Teacher sessions

· Introducing parents into the classroom for joint projects with teachers such as Maths for Fun, Science for Fun

· The HSCL works with new parents of Junior Infants helping smooth the transition into primary school.

· The HSCL works closely with the 6th class teacher and secondary schools to help the transition from primary to secondary.

· The HSCL works with The Genesis Programme and Area Coordination Team in supporting parents in our community. We deliver the Incredible years parenting programmes and many talks/initiatives that support parents throughout the school year.

Our HSCL, Grainne Dowdall, is available each school day and can be contacted via the school phone number on 042 933 1575 or on 087 792 1493. Alternatively you can send an email to sebhscl@gmail.com
