First Class 16th May
16th May 2025
Here are some of the things First Class have been doing this week.
English
We continued with our 'Pirate' theme in class this week. The children read the story 'Yo Ho Ho' . They also listened to stories about the adventures of Peter Pan and used these to explore speech marks and exclamation marks. The children had lots of fun looking at illustrations and creating possible conversational scenarios between characters. Our Phonics and spellings focus this week was 'ow'.
Maths
We started looking at data handling this week. The children learned how to collect, organise and interpret information using pictograms and tallycharts. We found out what flavour of icecream was the most popular in our class as well as the most wanted pet. We also focused on subtraction involving 2 digit numbers. Please practice this with your child at home to help consolidate their learning.
Irish
We revisited the topic of Bia this week. The children learned how to express preferences for food and they also learned a new poem.
Art
The children used oil pastels to create some fabulous 'Pirate' themed pictures for a display.
Religion
We have been practicing the 'Hail Mary' this week.
