First Class 1st May
2nd May 2025
Here are some of the things First Class have been doing this week.
Maths
The children have been learning how to add two 2 digit numbers together. We took our learning outside in the sunshine and the children worked in pairs to solve a number of questions around the playground with chalk. They also used their knowledge to solve word problems in their copybooks. They decided to revisit the topic of length when some of the children made dandelion chains. They used these to compare the length and height of objects around the classroom.
English
The class read an Aesop's Fable this week called 'the Dog and the Bone'. They also got to read for enjoyment in the sunshine. We explored similes this week and the children used these to write some great poems about their ideal dog. The children got involved with some fun games to help with their fine motor skills development for handwriting including making paperclip chains, making shapes with playdough and stacking counters with one hand.
Irish
First Class have been learning vocabulary for things found inside and outside the home. They enjoyed designing their own houses and labelling the different components in Irish.
