Our theme in First Class this week has been 'Robots'. Here are some of the things the children have been doing.
English
The children really enjoyed choral reading this week (reading aloud as a group) They read the story of 'Six Little Robots' with a focus on rhyming words. They designed their own robots and described them using adjectives before creating
a robot 'passport' for their new creation. The children have encountered lots of new vocabulary this week including 'gadget', 'antenna' and 'socket'. Our Phonics and spellings focus this week has been the 'oi' sound.
Maths
We explored the topic of 'Capacity' this week. We did lots of fun practical activities to explore the idea of full, empty, nearly full etc as well as looking at what a litre looks like. The children continue to practice counting within 100 and partitioning numbers into tens and ones.
Irish
We started our new topic 'Teilifís' this week. We played lots of fun games to help learn new words.
Art
The children looked at how artists use recycled materials for their art creations. The children will be building their own robots next week. If you could bring in materials such as cardboard boxes, pipe cleaners etc to help with this that would be very much appreciated.
