First Class 30th May
Another busy week in First Class. Here are some of the things the children have been doing.
English
We have focused on Antonyms (words that have opposite meanings) this week. The children played practical games in the Sports Hall to help aid their understanding of this. Our handwriting focus this week was months of the year and our Phonics focus was the 'or' sound.
Maths
The children have been outside the classroom this week as we continued to explore our topic of Capacity. They did lots of estimation as we compared how much water different containers would hold. Our mental maths focus this week was adding and subtracting 20 from different numbers within 100.
Irish
The class have continued with the topic of Teilifís this week. Can you draw a picture of your living room and label it with these new words we have learned? Bring it to class to earn some table points.

Art
There has been much excitement in our class this week as the children built their very own robots from recycled materials. They decorated them with tin foil, crepe paper, feathers, buttons, card and markers. They looked spectacular.

We have explored different fabrics that are used for making clothes and their properties. The children loved designing different outfits for their robots in their copybooks and discussing with a partner which materials would be suitable. The children watched a video of sheep shearing as part of learning about the wool processing journey. We also looked at clothes worn at different points throughout history and the children had lots of fun giving their opinions on these.
Religion
We have continued to celebrate Mary in her special month this week. The children read some stories from the bible that featured Mary. We have lit the candle on our May alter and practiced blessing ourselves correctly using holy water. Thank you to those children who brought these items in.
