Junior Infants 19th December

19th Dec 2025

Another super busy week in Junior Infants.

Maths
We have been focusing on 2D shapes this week and their properties. The children have been looking for shapes all over the school environment. They have been working really hard on practicing writing the numbers 3 and 4 in their copybooks for the first time.

English
We have been recapping all the Phonics sounds taught to date. The children have been so excited to look at books in class and find our new sounds. The children listened to the story of a 'Snowy Day' and really enjoyed listening to each other explain why they liked or disliked snow.

SESE
The children discussed different places they like to play in their local environment. The clear favourite was the park. They worked in groups to design a playpark as well as the journey to get there past familiar buildings and objects. This involved using lots of positional language such as behind, beside, above etc.

Irish

We have been learning the name of different toys as Gaeilge this week.

Art

The children have been using paint and cotton wool to design their own hats and mittens for a colourful display.

Free Play

The children have been putting their learning into practice this week in their free play sessions. Some of the children pretended to be teachers and were writing the Phonics sounds for their 'class'. They enjoyed exploring 2D shapes and using them to design robots and monsters. Some of the children were pretending to be elves in Santa's workshop and were making lists of toys they needed to make as Gaeilge!

I hope you all enjoy your Christmas boys and girls and I look forward to hearing all about it when I see you next.
