'Once upon a Time' in Junior Infants
We started our new theme of 'Once upon a Time' in Junior Infants this week. Here are some of the things the children have been doing.
English
Junior Infants had lot's of fun exploring the story of 'Cinderella' this week. We started the week exploring mystery objects from a story sack. These included a tiara, a clock showing midnight, a slipper and a magic wand. The children were so excited! They had fun guessing what our new story might be. They did character comparison work based on the story which sparked lot's of new and interesting vocabulary and discussions. Our role play area has been transformed into a castle where the children enjoyed playing with props and costumes to create fairytale magic in their play. The children even decided to set up a princess cafe within the castle with delicious food orders being jotted down by the boys and girls! We looked at the nursery rhyme of Jack and Jill with a particular focus on rhyming words and new vocabulary. The children had so much fun designing their own 'pails' and using them to re enact the rhyme.
Maths This week we have been focusing on the numbers 1-3 in our learning. This involved lot's of practical hands on activities and daily counting.
Irish The children learned how to say hello to each other, introduce themselves and name some familiar classroom objects.
SESE The class discussed the signs of autumn this week
Art The children have been designing their own ball gowns for Cinderella
