Our Last Term in Primary School
It's hard to believe, but May is already here! We're in our last term of sixth class, and we've been keeping busy with a range of exciting activities.
In our English lessons, we've been diving into a new story about Africia and its adventures. We used an atlas to locate Africia and drew the countries within. It was a great way to learn about geography and develop our mapping skills.
In maths, we took our learning outside and measured out 80 meters for a fun run using our school environment. We also explored perimeter and area within the school grounds, which was a great way to apply our maths skills to real-life situations. And, as architects in training, we drew plans for new houses – it was a fun way to think creatively and use our problem-solving skills.
In Irish, we discovered the Duolingo app, which has been a great way to improve our Gaeilge skills. Our topic for the next few weeks is "Sa Bhaile" (At Home), and we've been learning new vocabulary such as "teach scoite" (detached house), "Árasán" (apartment), and "Teach Leath-scoite" (semi-detached house). We even interviewed each other about our families and drew pictures of the types of homes we live in.
In science, we took our learning outside and explored the human body, focusing on the lungs. We created a model and some of our sixth-class students shared their newfound knowledge with the junior end of the school.
We're also keeping busy with GAA training and have started our Spanish lessons. And, to prepare us for secondary school, we took part in a transition program this week.
Overall, it's been a busy but exciting term, and we're looking forward to seeing what the rest of the year brings!
